About the Course
Course Description
This course introduces the design, setup, and daily operation of a professional dog-grooming salon. Students learn how each area—reception, evaluation, holding/kennels, grooming & styling, bathing & drying, laundry, storage, utility, restroom, break/office, retail, and outdoor “green” space—contributes to a safe, efficient workflow and polished client experience. The curriculum emphasizes sanitation standards, safety systems (leads, loops, harnesses, PPE), incident documentation, client communications, and team procedures that keep pets and professionals safe while maintaining a high-end, professional image.
Course Objective
Plan an efficient salon layout and traffic flow that prioritizes safety, noise control, and visibility across all work areas.
Implement sanitation and maintenance routines for kennels, tubs, tables, dryers, laundry, storage, and restrooms.
Operate core task areas (evaluation, receiving/check-in/out, grooming, bathing, drying, and holding) using standardized procedures and checklists.
Use and position safety equipment correctly (safety lead/loop, harnesses, muzzles, E-collars, Groomer’s Helper, safety blanket) and apply buddy-assisted techniques for lifting/handling.
Transport, kennel, and table pets safely—placing and removing dogs from kennels, tubs, and tables with species-appropriate holds and cues.
Monitor pets for distress (e.g., panting, lethargy, GI signs, seizure, bloat) and execute emergency protocols, including documentation and notifications.
Present finished pets and communicate professionally to build client trust and repeat business.
