Course Description
This course covers foundation material for the styling of various breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club as well as mixed breeds. Students learn the basic pattern lines associated with each coat type and how to apply them as the basis for all professional styling. Instruction includes how to build correct breed profiles, master distinct head, ear, body, feet, and tail styles, and recognize conformational faults to correct or avoid them. Creating balance, symmetry, and correct breed expression is emphasized throughout.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Identify and apply the pattern lines for each coat type, breed, and mixed breed.
Create accurate breed profiles through proper pattern execution.
Demonstrate principles of balance and symmetry in styling across breeds.
Recognize and correct conformational faults through trimming techniques.
Prevent the creation of new faults during styling.
Execute a range of styling details (head, ears, body, feet, tail, mane vs. bib, eyebrows vs. fall, etc.).
Create the proper breed expression through careful styling choices.
