Diploma Program  - On the Job Training

Online and Onsite 

This program provides you with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to become a professional dog bather, groomer, and stylist certified in all trim styles in all coat types. ​

 

You complete nine theory-based online courses and practical skills requirements.

 

Each online course takes one month to complete. You can take up to four courses per month.

Trim styles by coat types requirements are by job position and level.

BATHER GROOMER 

120 days (Four Months) 

 

Complete required online classes and trim styles to test out of the Bathing Program.

 

  1. Understanding: History of the Canine

  2. Salon: Layout, Equipment, Tools, Safety Policies, and Procedures

  3. Grooming: Phase 1 Prepping; Phase 2 Bathing; Phase 3 Drying; Phase 4 Brushing; Phase 5 Finishing

 

Complete the required trim styles certification for the Multitude of Coat Types.

 

  1. Naturally Trim Styles: Short; Smooth; Medium Smooth; Nordic

  2. Long and Flowing Trim Styles - With or Without Part: Drop Coats

  3. Silhouette Tidy Trim Styles: Rough Nordic; Rough; 

  4. Silhouette Enhancement Trim Styles: Medium Long

 

You will be evaluated, scored, and ranked as Novice, Master, Expert, or Specialist.

 

GROOMER STYLIST 

120 days (Four Months) 

Complete required online classes and trim styles to test out of the Bathing Program.


 

  1. Form and Function: Canine Anatomy and Physiology Certification 

  2. Taking Care: Disease and Disorders, Parasites 

  3. First Aid and CPR: Dog Certification 

  4. First Aid and CPR: Cat Optional

  5. First Aid and CPR: Human Optional

 

Complete required online classes and trim styles to test out of the Groomer/Stylist Program.

 

Complete the required trim styles certification for the Sporting Coat Types.

  1. Sporting Saddle Trim Styles: Sporting Coat Types

  2. Sporting Jacket Trim Styles: Sporting Coat Types

 

Complete the required trim styles certification for the Wire Coat Types.

  1. Long Legged Terrier: Wire Coat Types

  2. Scruffy Jacket: Wire Coat Types

  3. Short Legged Terrier: Wire Coat Types

  4. Short Legged Terrier with Fall: Wire Coat Types

  5. Short Legged Terrier with Unique Head Style: Wire Coat Types

  6. Short Legged Terrier with Unique Head and Neck Style: Wire Coat Types

 

You will be evaluated, scored, and ranked as Novice, Master, Expert, or Specialist.

 

STYLIST PROGRAM

120 days (4 months) 

 

Complete required online classes and trim styles to test out of the Stylist Program.

  1. Who’s Who: AKC breeds, their function, and groups. 

  2. Variations and Creations: Different Types of Eyes; Ears; Body; Feet; Tail; Coat; Toplines, Underlines  

  3. Styling by Coat Types: The trims and trim style components by coat types.

 

Complete the required trim styles certification for the Curly Coat Types. 

  1. Modern: Curly Coat Types

  2. Continental: Curly Coat Types

  3. Long Legged Terrier: Curly Coat Types

  4. Full Coated Body and Head Trim Style: Curly Coat Types

  5. Unique: Bedlington Curly Coat Types

  6. Lion Trim: Curly Coat Types

 

Complete the required trim styles certification for the Poodle

  1. Modern or German

  2. Continental - English Saddle

  3. Banded

 

You will be evaluated, scored, and ranked as Novice, Master, Expert, or Specialist. Dog’s 

Program Objective

Upon completing this OJT Diploma Program, you will understand and be able to bath, groom, and style dogs by coat types in the salon in a compassionate, safe and gentle manner. 

 

You will learn the following in the online courses:

  • History of the dog, temperament, behavior, and the basic training methods used to train dogs. 

  • The dog’s external anatomy includes integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, reproductive, urinary, respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous, and endocrine systems.

  • Body types, skull types, head types, feet types, tail types, coat types, and color types.

  • Nutrition, disease and vaccinations, medical conditions, and inherited disorders. 

  • Internal and external parasites, first aid, including CPR. 

  • About the American Kennel Club (AKC) and pure breeds, how to recognize the various breeds, their country of origin, the original task for which they were bred, and the approximate size and weight and coat color of each breed, and the characteristics that are a "trademark" for particular breeds.

  • The basic salon design and layout, salon organization and sanitation, proper salon procedures and operations. 

Program Performance Objectives

You will learn the following technical procedures: 

  • nail trimming, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, expressing anal glands, dematting, bathing, drying, combing, brushing, carding, hand stripping, clippering, scissoring, and thinning. 

You will learn the following styling procedures: 

  • How to create shapes, balance, and symmetry on all trim styles, create pattern lines, blend lines, styling, and finishing techniques for all coat types for mixed and purebred dogs. 

You will also learn the following salon procedures: 

  • safe and gentle handling of the pet during all technical procedures

  • salon organization and sanitation

  • proper salon procedures

Prerequisite

No previous experience is necessary with the on-the-job salon diploma program.
