Diploma Program - OJT

This program provides you with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to become a professional dog bather, groomer, and stylist certified in all trim styles in all coat types. ​

 

You complete nine theory-based online courses and practical skills requirements.

 

Each online course takes one month to complete. You can take up to four courses per month.

​

Trim styles by coat types requirements are by job position and level.

The type of trim styles is adjusted according to the area and the availability of different breeds. All trim styles can be modified show and pet trims. Breeds that are not available model dogs should be subbed.

Bather Groomer

The online courses can be completed to accommodate the level of experience of the employee.

Complete the required trim styles certification for the Multitude of Coat Types.

$59 Natural Trim Styles: Short; Smooth; Medium Smooth; Nordic

$59 Long and Flowing Trim Styles - With or Without Part: Drop Coats

$59 Silhouette Tidy Trim Styles: Rough Nordic; Rough; 

$59 Silhouette Enhancement Trim Styles: Medium Long

Groomer Stylist

The type of trim styles is adjusted according to the area and the availability of different breeds.

Program Objective

Upon completing this program, you will understand and be able to bathe, groom, and style pets encountered in a dog bathing, grooming, and styling salon in a compassionate, safe and gentle manner. 

 

You will study and learn all about the canine.

  • Study the dog's history, temperament, and behavior, and the basic training methods used to train dogs.

  • Learn the dog's external anatomy, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, reproductive, urinary, respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous, and endocrine system.

  • Learn about the body types, skull types, head types, feet types, tail types, coat types, and color types of the canine.

  • Study nutrition, disease, vaccinations, medical conditions, and inherited disorders in the canine. 

  • Study external and external parasites found on dogs and cats.

  • Study and practice first aid and CPR for canines and felines.

  • Learn about the different breeds, how to recognize the various breeds, their country of origin, the original task for which they were bred, the approximate size and weight and coat color of each breed, and the characteristics that are a trademark for particular breeds.

  • Study the basic salon design and layout, salon organization and sanitation, proper salon procedures, salon operations, and client relations.

Program Performance Objectives

You will learn the following technical procedures:

  • Nail trimming, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, expressing anal glands, de-matting, bathing, drying, combing, brushing, carding, hand stripping, clipping, scissoring, and thinning.

​

You will learn the following styling procedures:

  • How to create shapes, balance, and symmetry

  • How to set basic pattern lines and pattern blending.

  • Styling and finishing techniques for all coat types on mixed and purebred dogs.

​

You will also learn the following salon procedures:

  • Safe and gentle handling of the pet during all technical procedures.

  • Salon organization and sanitation.

  • Proper salon policies and procedures.

 

Prerequisite

No previous experience is necessary. Students can have no handicaps, physical or otherwise, that could reasonably prevent the use of the knowledge or skills gained from the training offered for successful on-the-job performance after completion of the training. The student must have a High School Diploma or GED or complete and pass the "Ability to Benefit".
